COMPLETED PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Sait Halim Paşa Waterfront Residence, Yeniköy 1980

Built in the mid-19th century, this waterfront residence was later purchased by Sait Halim Paşa —the son of the Khedieve of Egypt, Abbas Hilmi Paşa. The alliance between the Ottoman Empire and Germany that led the former enter the World War I was signed here on 2 August 1914. In the following years, the ownership of the waterfront reseidence was transferred to the Tourism Bank Directorate General and remained unmaintained for many years. With a view to repairing the structure and reintroducing it to tourism, a protocol was signed between the Tourism Bank and TAÇ Foundation, as a part of which the latter assumed the project creation and implementation services for restoration. Following the approval of the created project by the board, the embankment, which had caused deformation on the structure, was reinforced while the wood construction underwent a complete overhaul. The roof lantern, which hung down from the building and posed a hazard due to streams that caused problems in rain, was suspended and integrated to the roof. The side coating was completely overhauled, painted with special isolation paint, and an electrical system as well as heating-air conditioning and fire-warning systems were installed. The harem garden to the north was rearranged and the pool, or the women’s hamam, was repaired and revitalized. Changing rooms, WCs, showers, and a kiosk were added to serve the beach to the back of the yard.
