Dr. Hasan Akgün

He was born in 1955 in Trabzon. Beginning his municipal life in 1974, Dr. Hasan Akgün carried out his higher education together with his working life. Between 1979-1988, he participated in the training program on Urbanism and Management of Municipalities of the Middle East Public Administration Institute and conducted research in this field. Between 1989 and 1993, he examined the structures of local governments in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France and made a large-scale study by comparing these management practices with the practices in Turkey. In 1992, he completed his master's degree with his thesis on the Analysis of Municipalities and Their Budgets at the Faculty of Business Administration of Istanbul University. Akgün, who started his doctorate education at Istanbul University Marine Sciences Institute in 1993, examined the coastal planning studies and land use especially on the southern coasts of France and Barcelona during his doctoral studies and compared his findings with the practices in Turkey. He completed his doctoral thesis on “Urbanism in Büyükçekmece in the Urban Development Process” in 1996 and was entitled to receive his doctorate. He has written six books: Analysis of Municipalities and Their Budgets (1992), Büyükçekmece in the Process of Urban Development (1996), Atatürk and the Republic (1998), From Modernization to Globalization Local Governments in Turkey – History and Today (2013), Local Authorities in Turkey and Europe (2017), Balloting Games, What Happened in Büyükçekmece in the 2019 Local Elections? (2021)
