He was born in 1943 in İstanbul. He graduated from the Department of Classical Archaeology at İstanbul University Faculty of Arts. He has worked as Director of Art and Culture at the Touring and Automobile Club of Turkey, lecturer at the Museology Department of Yıldız Technical University, and lecturer at the Archaeology and Art History Department of Trakya University. He received his associate professorship in 2001 and professorship in 2007 in Classical Archaeology from the Archaeology and Art History Department at İstanbul University Faculty of Arts, where he has been teaching since 1994. He is currently the head of Archaeology Department at Karabük University Faculty of Arts. He is also an associate member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) National Committee of Turkey.
