Mahir Polat

He was born in Erzincan in 1976. He graduated from Istanbul University Archeology and Art History Department in 2002. He continued his education at Istanbul Technical University, Department of History of Architecture in 2003. In 2008, he completed his postgraduate education at Yıldız Technical University, Institute of Social Sciences, Art and Design Department, Department of Museology, with his thesis on curatorial activities of museums. He gave lectures on cultural heritage legislation as a guest lecturer in the same department between 2011 and 2015. He continues his doctoral thesis focused on religious cultural heritage, which he started in 2009 at the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul University. He started his duty at the General Directorate of Foundations in 2005 and continued as a Foundation Specialist since 2009. He served as the director of Akaretler Atatürk Museum between 2014-2016 and the Turkish Construction and Art Works Museum between 2016-2019. In this process, he took part in the establishment and restoration of many museums. Mahir Polat who has works in the fields of historical cultural environment protection, museum science, religious cultural social history, social memory and architectural history, is a member of the History Foundation Board of Trustees, Europa Nostra Turkey and Foundation Experts Association.
